Helping Your Toddler Understand Differences

Little Pink Dress |
Edit Post
You're cruising down the aisles at the grocery store when your preschooler spots a man with a prosthetic arm. She stares and asks, in a loud voice, "Mommy, what's wrong with that man's arm?"
Three-year-olds are very attuned to the differences between themselves and others. And they're not afraid to ask questions about them — loudly. For instance why someone's hair, eyes, or skin color is different? Why is that kid in a wheelchair? They're genuinely surprised and curious.
While their timing might embarrass you, these questions can open a door to meaningful conversation later about race, age, gender, or disabilities. Try to answer in a brief and matter-of-fact way: "That man had an accident and lost his arm, and the doctor made him a new one." Keep explanations simple. For example, pointing out that skin comes in all different shades is easier for a 3-year-old to grasp than a deeper discussion about labels like "Asian" or "African American." And if the person your child is asking about is within earshot, it'll probably be less likely to offend or embarrass them, too.
This is a great age for teaching acceptance without judging. While your child may be attuned to differences, help her observe people's similarities as well: "Kate only has one arm, but she's your age, and she likes to run and play on the swings, just like you." Try to expose your child to all kinds of people. Take her along when you visit elderly relatives, for example, or to visit friends of a different race.

Baby's 1st Birthday

What Should She Wear???
These days, first birthdays are big events. Themes are often chosen to use as a basis of decorating and making invitations. Choosing the perfect first birthday outfit is also important to make your baby shine on her special day.
It's important to keep in mind certain things while choosing a first birthday outfit for your little princess. The birthday outfit should coordinate with your child's birthday theme. The outfit should be comfortable and easy for your child to move, crawl or walk around in to enjoy all the fun. Many first birthday outfits come with a matching bib which is important to keep such a special outfit clean, to keep as a keepsake for years to come.
Birthday tutus and pettiskirts are very popular. Birthday tutus and pettiskirts are fun because they showcase your little princess in an enormous swirl of puffy tulle and lace, and it definitely helps her stand out from the crowd. She'll get a wave of compliments, and really feel like a beautiful princess. At Little Pink Dress we offer a large selection of pettiskirts and tutus, some selections can even be customized to fit the theme or colors of your child's party. Some birthday tutus can even be paired with matching applique t-shirts.

1st Birthday dresses are also popular and fun to buy. A first birthday dress can be kept as a keepsake or be used to take the all important 1st birthday photos. Many 1st birthday outfits can be personalized with monograms or a name embroidered across the front. Again, search for the perfect first birthday dress by looking for one that coordinates with the theme of your child's birthday party.
Accessorize your little princess's outfit with one of our beautiful handmade boutique bows, or a fun and whimsical personalized birthday party hat!

Baby Shower Gifts

Baby showers celebrate the anticipated or recent arrival of a new life. But they're also a way to help parents prepare for their little bundle of joy. Keep that in mind when shopping for a gift. Things to consider:
• Is this the couple's first baby? If so, you might want to get something practical.
• Do you know the child's sex? That might help you be more specific in your selection.
• Are the expectant parents registered? Ask the host. If they've registered for what they want or need, you can choose something from their list.
• Try to select a gift that can be returned if the parents want to get a different size or color.
• When buying clothes, remember that babies grow quickly. Don't buy anything smaller than a 3-month size. New parents will appreciate clothes in bigger sizes that can be put away for later. But also remember to consider what the season will be when the baby reaches the size you're buying. Giving a baby born in January a snowsuit that will fit him in August will probably result in an exchange — something more all-weather might be best.
If you need a little inspiration, look no further!

Rhyme Time

Building your Toddlers vocabulary in a fun way!
A wonderful way to enhance your child's language development is with rhymes. Alliteration, word play, and rhyme tune your child's understanding of subtle differences between words and build vocabulary. They help boost auditory memory, important pre-reading skills, and develop rhythm, too. The word pictures drawn in familiar rhymes become both fascinating and familiar. Reading and singing rhymes lets your child know that words can be funny and fun as well!
There's good reason Dr. Seuss books are universal favorites. The vocabularies are simple but the rhymes are pitch-perfect. In addition to rhyming storybooks, look for books of classic nursery rhymes or books of children's poems. There's a wide variety: counting rhymes, rhymes with finger play, and those with silly tongue twisters. It's also great to sing familiar rhymes, which offers many of the same benefits. Your pitch doesn't matter in the least :)

Just in time for the Summer! SnapMe Swimwear

Edit Post
One of the most frustrating things about the Summer time is taking my littles to the pool. Now don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fun playing with them and watching them splash around and just have an amazing time, but what frustrates me more than anything, is trying to rush my 4 year old to the restroom and fight to get a slippery wet swimsuit off of her before she has an accident. Not to mention having to keep from completely exposing my toddler because I'm trying to change her swim diaper. I'm sure just about every mother out there with a little one can agree with me. Well ladies there has been an answer to our prayers. SnapMe Swimwear is a new line of swimsuits that has 2 rows snap buttons in the crotch and an adjustable strap around the neck. Now the next time you go to the pool or beach all you have to do is unsnap, change, snap up and your back in the water splashing with your little one again. These swimsuits are fabulous and just an awesome product. Created by a mom for moms.
